I have a MUST-TRY beauty elixir to share with you today! Some people call this a Turmeric Latte or Golden Milk but I just call it straight-up delicious. It is healthy and yummy and I bet you haven’t tried it before. Now, I love coffee as much as the next person but sometimes you just want to take a break from the caffeine. And tea is soothing and relaxing but maybe you want something with a little more kick to it.
As you might have guessed, the secret ingredient to this powerful drink is TURMERIC. This is an amazing spice that has been getting lots of praise lately for it’s numerous health benefits. However, while it originated in China, it’s been used in India and Southeast Asia for thousands of years. It is also what gives curry it’s yellowish color. Mmmm, curry!
Beauty & Health Enhancing Properties of Turmeric
Let’s explore some of the amazing benefits of this ancient spice:
- Acts as an anti-inflammatory
- Immune system booster
- Helps skin complexion
- May help depression
- May aid in weight-loss
- Is very high in antioxidants
Let me share with you how I make mine at home!
Turmeric Latte Recipe
1 cup milk of choice (I use organic cow’s milk but you can use coconut, almond, cashew, rice, etc.)
1/4-1/2 teaspoon of Turmeric Powder (you can find this in the spice section of most grocery stores)
Dash of ground Black pepper (start out with a little and add more if you can handle it)
Dash of cinnamon (this is optional but really adds a nice depth of flavor)
Raw local honey or maple syrup to taste (I prefer maple but that’s just me)
Heat all the ingredients in a pan on the stove top until warm. But don’t let it boil. Pour into your favorite mug and enjoy! The smell of the spices is so soothing and relaxing. I like making this in the evening when I want a warm drink before bed.
NOTE: Don’t skip adding the pepper! Apparently, it enables your body to absorb the turmeric better. Good to know!
