If you’ve ever stepped foot into the glorious kitchen & home goods store, Williams Sonoma then you know what I’m talking about here. Even if you’ve never been there, trust me…it’s worth talking about! Just imagine what Ina Garten or Martha Stewart’s kitchen would smell like around the holidays!
As soon as you walk through the door, the aroma is homey, clean, delicious and for some reason it makes you want to spend all your money on overpriced kitchen gadgets, or maybe it’s just me! No matter what season it is, I want to share how to make YOUR home smell like Williams Sonoma, too!
I’m going to share with you how to make your home smell amazing with natural ingredients and spices you probably already have in the kitchen.
But first, since it’s almost Thanksgiving, I’m going to share some of my favorite fall fragrances you can actually purchase and then I’ll give you my DIY at-home versions you will LOVE too!
My Favorite Store Bought Scents
I LOVE a good candle as much as the next girl and my very favorite fall/winter candle is this Ski House candle from LAFCO. It literally smells like you’re by the fire in your lodge in Aspen. It’s masculine, earthy and comforting. It’s so perfect for fall and winter. It has an elegant and high-end smell to me. It’s definitely a splurge, but it’s a large candle and lasts a VERY long time. Love, Love it! If my family is reading this, you know what to get me for Christmas..haha!
My next favorite fall fragrance originates from my home state. My love for this fragrance from Arkansas-based company, Aromatique started when I was in my early 20s. Their Cinnamon Cider is wonderfully comforting and has the fragrance of fresh apple cider with a hint of cinnamon. It’s not super strong, just enough fragrance to get your money’s worth but not overpowering and not cheap smelling. The candle is wonderful and I also like this diffuser set for a scent that lasts all season and you can use it where burning a candle might not be safe.
My last fall/winter favorite is this amazing pinon incense from Inciensio de Santa Fe. This is real wood incense bricks made from natural wood and they are AMAZING! This company is of course based in Santa Fe, NM. My favorite is their pinon scent but I bought a sampler box that has 7 different wood scents. It truly makes it smell like a wood burning fireplace. I’m in LOVE with the little terracotta cabin holder the set below comes with. The smoke comes out the chimneys and it’s adorable. It would make a really cute gift!
How to Make Your Home Smell Like Williams Sonoma
Ok, now on to the DIY! I think it’s amazing you can throw a bunch of natural ingredients into a boiling pot of water and have your whole house smell incredible. You probably already have all of this in your kitchen. This stove top potpourri is inexpensive, free of synthetic ingredients and is naturally wonderful!
The instructions for all recipes is the following:
Fill a medium sized pot or small crockpot 3/4 full of water, and add the ingredients. Bring to a boil for a few minutes and then lower heat to a simmer. Let it simmer as long as you like, just be sure to watch the water level and refill if needed. This mixture can last you for several days. Just reheat whenever you’re ready!
Classic Scent (All Season)
This is for any season of the year. It’s clean, fresh and so comforting. You will need:
2 Lemons (sliced)
1 TBSP Vanilla Extract
2 Sprigs of Rosemary (lucky you, if you’re growing this in your yard!)
Fall Scent
I love this for Thanksgiving time! You will need:
4-6 Cinnamon Sticks
1 TBSP Vanilla Extract
1 Orange (sliced)
2 TBSP Whole Cloves
3-5 Bay leaves
Christmas Scent
This is a classic scent for all season long! So festive! You will need:
3-5 Cinnamon Sticks
1-3 Orange Slices
1-2 Sprigs of Rosemary
1 Tbsp Whole Cloves
1 Cup fresh cranberries
2 tsp. Nutmeg
That’s all you need to have your home smell like Williams Sonoma! I love to get a pot of this simmering while I’m preparing meals, cleaning house or wrapping Christmas gifts. It really gets you in the spirit!
